That skunk smell is EVERYWHERE right now

That skunk smell is EVERYWHERE right now. Late February. Early March. 🦨
You think we’re “invading.” We’re not.
We’re looking for LOVE.
MATING SEASON:
Right now – late February through March – male skunks are wandering MILES every night.
Looking for females. Crossing roads. Crossing yards. Getting hit by cars.
That smell on the highway? A skunk that died trying to find a mate.
A little sad when you think about it.
THE SPRAY:
We don’t WANT to spray you.
Spraying uses precious energy. It takes 10 days to refill our glands. We’re DEFENSELESS after spraying.
So we warn you. FIVE OR MORE times:
→ Stomp our front feet
→ Hiss
→ Raise our tail
→ Turn our back
→ STILL give you time to leave
If you got sprayed? You ignored every single warning.
WHAT WE DO:
→ Eat grubs destroying your lawn
→ Eat beetles, crickets, grasshoppers
→ DIG UP and eat yellow jacket nests
→ Eat mice and baby rats
→ Eat venomous snakes (we’re nearly immune)
We’re pest control that PAYS YOU BACK by eating your actual pests.
THE TRUTH:
That skunk waddling through your yard at dusk?
It’s not there to spray you. It’s not there to cause problems.
It’s looking for love. Same as anyone.
Maybe give it some space?
