So it’s time to cast off the cookie-cutter shackles and think frills-forward with pattern and color. Maybe it’s a dresser stenciled with a folk-art motif. Maybe it’s shelves lined with hand-picked books and storied trinkets—or a statement piece unearthed in the back room of an antiques store or handed down by that eccentric great-aunt.
