That scruffy fox crossing your neighborhood in broad daylight probably isn’t rabid.
She’s exhausted. 🦊
Right now, across much of North America, fox parents are working around the clock to feed hungry kits hidden underground.
A nursing vixen may spend most of her day and night hunting mice, voles, and other small prey.
By late spring, many look rough.
Their winter coat is shedding.
Their energy reserves are low.
Their ribs may show.
And they’re often seen during daylight because hungry mouths don’t wait for sunset.
🌿 The fox trotting through your yard isn’t looking for trouble.
She’s looking for dinner.
And while she does, she’s helping keep local rodent populations under control.
If you see a thin fox focused on hunting and ignoring people, give her space.
Wild parents are having a harder season than most of us realize.
Sometimes the animal people fear most is simply the one working hardest.
